We will be honoring Mary with different songs, prayers and activities throughout the month of May. Most of the children are able to recite the "Hail Mary" prayer with simple prompting and they also have a good understanding of how much Mary loves them and that we can always pray to her, knowing she hears our prayers.
Our Unit 9 story in the HAPPILY EVER AFTER preschool reading series is Peter and the Wolf. This is a stroy told by music. The characters in the story are all represented by various musical instruments. The children will work with the letters Uu, Vv and Ww and triangles and the color white. They will also begin using pencils to mark some of their activity and storybook pages. They will identify same/different beginning sounds in words and continue to follow oral directions when completing their activity pages or working in their storybooks.
Our Unit 10 story is the final story in this reading series and it is called ABC Book. The children will work with the letters Xx, Yy and Zz and the color pink. They will review colors, shapes and concepts taught previously in other units. The focus in this "story" will be rhyming. They will continue to use pencils instead of crayons, so as to increase their manual dexterity. Both the activity pages and storybooks will be sent home when completed by the first week in June.
In math, we will continue to learn about simple addiditon and subtraction. We will also work with numbers 11-20 during Centers. We will record our weather on our Weather Graph each morning and the children will also be counting and dancing to 100 with our Jack Hartmann videos throughout the month.
Finally, we will be learning about plants and insects this month. There will be many interesting stories, fun activities and art projects to accompany these springtime themes.
Have and WONDERFUL month and thank you for your continued support at home!!!
