As wel prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving later this month, the children will be able to share some of the things they are thankful for during our morning Carpet Time. We will read some stories and poems to help remind us that the many "small", everyday things we see at school or at home, and the people we share them with, are all special and we have God to thank for all of these "everyday" items.
Our next story in the HAPPILY EVER AFTER reading program is La Tortuga. Tortuga is a clever turtle who plays a trick on some children who have captured her. The story takes place in Mexico. The children will learn about the letters Ee and Ff, they will work with the color yellow and they will gain practice drawing circles. They will learn the position words in and out and they will also practice discrimiating between loud and soft sounds. The storybooks and activity pages for this unit will be sent home before the Thanksgiving holiday.
In math, the childrn will be introduced to the concept more than and less than. This will tie in nicely with various sorting and counting activities that are planned throughout the month during our CENTER time. The children will also continue to work with simple ABAB and ABCABC patterns.
As fall gets closer to winter, we will learn how animals prepare for the colder weather. The children will learn about hibernation, migration and insulation. There will be several stories, art projects and activies to go along with this theme.
Finally, the children will learn about the First Thanksgiving and how the Native Americans helped the pilgrims learn to plant crops, hunt and fish during their first year the New World, America. We will talk about similarities and differences between our lives today and 400 years ago.
November promises to be a very busy, yet fun month!!! Thank you for sharing your children with us this year. They are a very kind and friendly group of children and Ms. Cohen and I enjoy our time with them each day. Have a wonderful month and a very HAPPY AND BLESSED THANKSGIVING!!!
