Kindergarten 

Hello Kindergarten Families!

We are off to a wonderful start of the 2018-2019 school year. We have been so busy exploring our classroom and the building as well as learning our daily schedule. There are also so many wonderful friends in our class to get to know! We are starting some ELA centers and our Go Math curriculum. It's also been so much fun playing on the playground with this nice weather we have been having.

Reading:
We will soon begin our Reader's Workshop to introduce strategies that will help students become readers. We are working on letter idenfitication, letter sounds and letter formation. We are also working on writing our names with an upper case letter followed by lower case. Our ELA centers have been alot of fun! We are working on many skills such as upper and lower case letter matching, rhyming, beginning and ending letter sounds, and much more. Please read with your child every day. :)

Writing:
We have started our writers workshop and the students are loving it! We talked about how we are all writers and we can write about anything we want which is so much fun. So far, we have been creating amazing illustrations and adding in many letters that we hear the sounds for. We also learned that when we think we are all done, we've really just begun! Adding more details is so important in our writing. We have writing folders at school that we will be storing all of our work in. If we have not finished a writing piece we can put in on one side of the folder and work on it when we are able. 

Math:
We have completed chapter 1 and chapter 2 of our Go Math Curriculum. So far, we are working on number formation for numbers 0-8 and also counting objects 1-8. We also learned about numbers that are the same, more and less. We will be exploring math hands on with manipluatives and also through the use of the smart board which is interactive. This week we started our math centers. Each group will work with Mrs. Heinsbergen or Mrs. Uttaro. We have an independent group working on math skills such as number formation, counting objects, sorting, patterning, etc. We also have an iPad center where students will be using math programs to further their math skills. 

Religion:
We have been practicing the sign of the cross daily through prayer and also have started to dicsuss God's creations. We discussed what we are thankful for that God has given us and made pictures to share with our entire school! They are hanging up outside of our classroom in the hallway. We also know the Hail Mary and enjoy saying this prayer often.

11/1: Parent teacher conferences in the evening
11/2: No School for Students for Parent teacher conferences all day
11/12: No School for Veterans Day
11/21-11/23: No School for Thanksgiving Break
